SCIENCE -THE MICROSCOPE

Glossary

Eyepiece Lens: Ocular the lens at the top that you look through.  They are usually 10X or 15X power.

Es el lente en la parte superior por el cual miras. Normalmente tienen una potencia de 10X o 15X.

Tube:  Tubo

Connects the eyepiece to the objective lenses.

Conecta el ocular con los objetivos.

Arm:  brazo

Supports the tube and connects it to the base. It is  used along with the base to carry the microscope .

Apoya el tubo y lo conecta con la base. Este es usado con la base para llevar el miscroscopio.

Base: Base

The bottom of the microscope, used for support .

Es la parte inferior del microscopio usada para apoyarlo.

Illuminator: iluminador

A steady light source (110 volts) used in place of a mirror.

Una fuente de luz estable (110 voltios) usada en lugar de un espejo.

Stage: platina

This is the flat platform where you place your slides.  Stage clips hold the slides in place.

Esta es la plataforma plana donde colocas los portaobjetos. Los ganchos en la platina sostienen los portaobjetos

en su lugar.

Revolving Nosepiece or Turret:  Revólver

This is the part that holds two or more objective lenses and can be rotated to easily change power.

Esta es la parte que sostiene dos o más lentes objetivos y puede ser rotada para cambiar fácilmente la potencia.

Objective Lenses:  Objetivos

Usually you will find 3 or 4 objective lenses on a microscope. 

Normalmente encontrarás 3 o 4 lentes de objetivo en un microscopio.

Diaphragm or Iris: Diafragma o condensador.

This diaphragm has different sized holes and is used to vary the intensity and size of the cone of

light that is projected upward into the slide.

Este diafragma tiene agujeros de diferente tamaño y se utiliza para variar la intensidad y el tamaño del cono de luz que se proyecta hacia arriba en el portaobjetos.

Coarse adjustment: Tornillo macrométrico.

This is used to focus the microscope. It is always used first, and it is used only with the low power objective.

Esto se usa para enfocar el microscopio. Siempre se usa primero, y se usa sólo con el objetivo de baja potencia.

Fine adjustment: Tornillo micrométrico.

This is used to focus the microscope. It is used with the high power objective to bring the

specimen into better focus.

Esto se usa para enfocar el microscopio. Se utiliza con el objetivo de alta potencia para enfocar mejor el

espécimen.
